Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 September 2026
The short version: DeFogger is your private book-keeping app. Your business's data is yours. We only use it to run, back up and support your account — we never sell it, never share it with anyone else, and never look at your numbers for our own purposes. You can export or delete your data whenever you want.

Who we are

DeFogger is a business book-keeping app made by FinThinkers. When we say “we”, “us” or “DeFogger” we mean the people who run the app. If you have any question about your data, contact us at [your-contact-email].

What we store

Only what you need to use the app:

Why we store it

Who can see your data

Each business is walled off from every other — one business can never see another's data.

What we never do

Keeping it safe

Your data travels over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, your PIN is scrambled before it is stored, and each business's books are kept separate and private. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

We also keep our own safety copies of the service, so your books can be restored if something goes badly wrong at our end. Those copies deliberately leave out the sign-in keys — so even if such a copy fell into the wrong hands, it could not be used to walk into your shop. Only the owner of DeFogger can make one.

From time to time we practise the recovery — because a backup nobody has ever restored from is a hope, not a plan. That means loading a safety copy into a temporary, separate system, checking the books come back correctly, and then destroying that system. It is done by the owner of DeFogger alone, the temporary copy is never open to anyone else, and it is deleted as soon as the check is finished. Your live books are never touched by it.

Where your data is kept

Your data is stored securely with our cloud hosting provider. If we ever change where or how it is stored in a way that affects you, we will update this page.

A copy also stays on your own device. That is what lets you keep billing when the internet drops, and it is kept in your browser's own storage on the phone, tablet or computer you use — it is not a separate file you can lose, and it is never sent anywhere except to your own cloud books. It holds the same things your books hold, so treat an unlocked phone the way you would treat an open ledger. Signing out, or clearing the app's data in your browser, removes that copy from that device; your cloud books are untouched.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. Please check back from time to time.
